OK! I am so excited. I recently got a Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter and I.am.in.love!! This machine is amazing. The cuts are clean, intricate and sharp. The Silhouette Studio software allows you to create cutting files from just about… anything, including digital scrapbooking files. And there is even a print & cut option that will allow you to print out your digital scrapbooking files and cut them on the machine!!! There are so many features I want to highlight! Throughout the summer, I plan on doing some tutorials to show you how to incorporate Digital Scrapbooking products in to your traditional & hybrid project using your Silhouette Cameo Electronic Cutter!

Today, I’m starting with an easy example, but something that might be somewhat less obvious- using shapes & templates to make masks & stencils for your projects. Next week, we’ll be featuring some more projects made with these files on the Scrap Orchard Blog in our monthly Mixed Media Monday post, but today I’m going to show you how to cut the files on a Silhouette Cameo!!
First let me show you my finished project:

I used these files to create stencils, masks & shapes for the project:

I put together this short video tutorial to walk you through setting up the shape you want to cut on your Silhouette Cameo:
How awesome is that!?!?! Oh…. my mind is just racing with all the cutting possibilities!
For this project, I used two of the cloud files- the mask and the shape. I didn’t end up using the stencil, but it still cut beautifully!

First I laid the masks on my paper and sprayed over them. When I took the masks off my paper, I was left with a subtle outline of where the mask had been. Then I created cloud elements for my page by stamping the cloud shapes with a cute little ledger stamp and inking the outlines. I glued the shapes on to my page and painted in the edges a little more to really make them pop off the background.
I also used two of the honeycomb files to give my grassy area some texture.

EEEEEEEKK! Look at how crisp and beautiful those cuts are….. *swoon*.

First, I placed the honeycomb stencil over my paper and painted the open areas with green paint. Then I used the honeycomb mask as both a mask and a stencil. I placed the honeycomb mask over the area where the grass and the sky meet and sprayed it with a tan ink spray to help blend the sky and the grass. Then I placed the mask over the grass and spread Delta Texture Magic over the stencil to give the grass a little more texture.
This project was so much fun and I’m am so excited to be able to make my own stencils and shapes for my scrapbooking and art projects!! You can download the Cloud {Cutters} and the Honeycomb {Cutters} HERE! I would love to see how you use the shapes in your own projects, both traditional and digital!!
Have a great day!

Thanks so much for sharing your awesome artwork and the terrific tutorial!
I have two questions:
Do we need to purchase the Silhouette Designer software upgrade in order to use digital scrapbooking products with the Silhouette cutter?
How are the file extensions converted from jpg, png, ttf into file extensions the cutter can use? Thanks!!
